A January Tradition

Every January…usually the first week, I have a tradition. I sit down with Nigel Slater’s Kitchen Diaries (there are 3 volumes now) and plan what I’m going to cook during January. His Ginger cake is incredible!

I do love a cookery book (and cooking), but Nige is my favourite. His books are more than just a collection of recipes and reading them gives me a warm fuzzy feeling on a cold winters day.

Following Nigel’s philosophy, today I’ll be experimenting in the kitchen. I have a Panettone that I bought just after Christmas (it was reduced). I’m not really a fan…so, after a bit of Googling, I’ve decided to try using it to make Bread Pudding.

If it turns out well it’ll be lovely, warm with a cup of tea as I watch the rain fall outside. And if not, I’m sure the birds will enjoy it for breakfast tomorrow 😉

  1. I never used to like cooking but since lockdown I’ve cooked more stuff from scratch which wasn’t as bad as I thought. I still don’t love it but those books on your post have got me interested. They look amazing 😊x

    1. I can HIGHLY recommend Nigel Slaters Kitchen Diaries Sandra…they’re like journals where he makes observations on the garden and the seasons, how what he eats changes month by month. I’ve read all 3 cover to cover more than once ☺️ x
